This week’s viral goes to Leap Motion with “Introducing the Leap” – a product demonstration video that says goodbye to the keyboard, mouse and touchscreens and hello to Minority Report.

Rarely will such a simple demonstration for a piece of tech create such an online buzz. The product is an iPod-sized USB peripheral that creates a 3D interaction space – enabling users to control a computer using natural hand and finger movements. Or put another way, it’s the cool technology used in sci-fi movie Minority Report.

The video introduces the Leap system across a range of tasks, from precise virtual drawing to everyday tasks such as playing Angry Birds.

The ad has already achieved huge success online with over 4.5 million views, over 35,000 Facebook shares and almost 500 blogs in the last week.

Leap Motion co-founder Michal Buckwald said that the technology is flexible and could expand beyond computers to smartphones, tablets and even refrigerators.

He went on to say “One day 3D motion control will be in just about every device we interact with, and thanks to the Leap, that day is coming sooner than anyone expected”.

To get your hands on the gadget – head over to the Leap website where you can “own the future” for a mere $70.
